In 1999 KUNSTEN (then Nordjyllands Kunstmuseum) presented an exhibition of Birte Inge Christensen and John Hunov's collection of art, which the museum acquired in the course of the following years. While the collection includes one or two detours into the 1960s (with works by Poul Gernes and Egon Fischer), it consists primarily of works from the 1980s.
It all started around 1980, when the artist Berit Jensen, who already knew the couple, introduced them to other artists associated with the "Værkstedet Værst" studio and the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Throughout the 1980s Birte Inge Christensen and John Hunov built up a collection of about 100 works by a number of the decade's "Young Wild" artists, including Berit Jensen, Inge Ellegaard, Peter Bonde, Lars Nørgård, Erik A. Frandsen, Michael Kvium, Christian Lemmerz, Lars Ravn and Claus Carstensen.
