Creative workshops with workshops, drawing courses and artistic experiments
Come and try your hand at ‘Suminagashi’ – the Japanese art of paper marbling. Suminagashi – in English ‘floating ink’ – is a centuries-old Japanese technique, used for colouring paper. Brushes are first dipped in black ink and then in a vat of water, creating black rings. The ink flows on the surface, gradually spreading. Using simple tools, you can then make beautiful, marbled patterns on the surface of the water before transferring them onto paper.
It is a simple, yet rather meditative process.
The art workshops are all about handling and using materials. You are guided and supervised by a trained artist. Together we explore and experiment, discovering the potential of a particular technique or material. Given the experimental nature of the workshops, you can approach the content on your terms.
Your ticket includes high-quality materials and expert guidance from our resident artist. You never know what you’ll be working on, so don’t wear your best clothes!
You are welcome to buy drinks or snacks in the Brasserie to keep you going as you experiment your heart out in the workshop.
