STRID draws and tells stories

Oct 12th 2013 to Mar 2nd 2014

Amazing rhymes, fantastic stories and detailed illustrations. The Danish cartoonist and storyteller, Jakob Martin Strid, captures both children and adults with books like “Mustafa’s Kiosk”, “Little Frog” and “My Grandma’s Dentures”, which today can be found on bookshelves in many children’s rooms.

KUNSTEN presents the first exhibition of Jakob Martin Strid’s works, where both children and those who feel young at heart get a chance to travel in a huge pear and see more than 300 drawings from famous books and comic strips, as well as some new drawings and sketches from upcoming publications. The exhibition has already been displayed at Storm P. Museum in Copenhagen, where it achieved great success.

About Jakob Martin Strid (born 1973)

Jakob Martin Strid’s public breakthrough came with his comic strips “Strid”, published daily by the newspaper Politiken in 2001 and again in 2002-03. Strid's latest publication, “The Incredible Story about the Giant Pear”, has received considerable international attention, and has been published in many countries. Reviewers have announced Strid an heir to the throne in a straight line from Storm P. and Claus Deleuran to Rune T. Kidde.

Jakob Martin Strid has received the Dan Turell Award in 2001, Danish Arts Foundation's three - year scholarship in 2006, Gyldendal’s travelling scholarship in 2007, Orla Prize in 2008, Gyldendal’s Children's Book Award in 2012 and the Crown Prince Couple's Culture Award in October 2012.

Strid continues to maintain trust in what is bright and loving, as well as faith in fantasy’s self-sustaining power.
