Carsten Höller, who grew up in Brussels to German parents, is renowned for his experimental approach to art, and his installations can literally take the form of a scientific experiment without, however, a scientist being present to measure the responses.
Höller holds a PhD (1988) and a Habilitation (1993) in agricultural sciences, and his scientific background is crucial to his artistic practice, even though it often takes the form of a critical approach towards the predominant scientific materialistic world view.
Höller has exhibited at some of the most renowned museums in the world, including solo exhibitions at Tate Modern in London (2006), Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart in Berlin (2010), New Museum in New York (2011), Palazzo Strozzi in Florence (2018) and Museo Tamayo in Mexico City (2019).
