She was a pionering feminist, an avant-garde artist and one of the twentieth century's great creative personalities.
As part of CPH:DOX' initiative AALBORG:DOX Kunsten is screening the documentary 'Viva Niki ― The Spirit of Niki de Saint Phalle' (2024) about the legendary and colourful French-American artist.
Before the screening Kunstens curator Amalie Marie Laustsen will introduce Niki de Saint Phalle and the works by her in Kunsten collection – all three of which will be on display on this ocassion.
Please note that the introduction and the documentary are both in english.
The late French-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle is remembered today for her Nanas; a vibrant and colourful force of female sculptures. These figures – like all of Niki’s works – possess an untamed creativity that resonates with the very energy of life.
With unpublished stills and recent footage, director Michiko Matsumoto recalls the life and legacy of Niki. Told through an artist’s eye, the documentary introduces masterpieces such as the Tarot Garden in Tuscany, Italy – an extensive collection of works more than 20 years in the making.
With this film, director Michiko Matsumoto wishes to share Niki’s indomitable spirit, free artistic expression, and infectious joy in creativity – and in life itself.
