Do you like to draw? Or would you like to get started? Together we explore and experiment, discovering the potential of mark making.
How does one make a drawing come to life? Make it express emotions, moods and movement?
Mark making describes the different lines, dots, marks, patterns, and textures we create in an artwork. It can be loose and gestural or controlled and neat. It can apply to any material used on any surface: paint on canvas, ink or pencil on paper, a scratched mark on plaster, a digital paint tool on a screen, a tattooed mark on skin…even a sound can be a form of mark making. Artists use gesture to express their feeling and emotions in response to something seen or something felt – or gestural qualities can be used to create a purely abstract composition.
Learn about different types of mark making. Learn to both control and let go of your own mark making with the guidance of Kunsten's artist in residence, Inge Tranter. During the workshop we experiment with a wide range of materials from our art lab such as coal, grafite and ink.
The art workshops are all about handling and using materials. You are guided and supervised by a trained artist. Together we explore and experiment, discovering the potential of a particular technique or material. Given the experimental nature of the workshops, you can approach the content on your terms.
Your ticket includes high-quality materials and expert guidance from our resident artist. You never know what you’ll be working on, so don’t wear your best clothes!
You are welcome to buy drinks or snacks in the Brasserie to keep you going as you experiment your heart out in the workshop.
