With 'Eleven Less One', Kunsten's exhibition hall is transformed into a mirror room that changes character depending on the spectator observing the art work. The installation is not complete until you step into it and stand in front of it.
The breathtaking mirror installation 'Eleven Less One' is created by the world-renowed Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto (b. 1933).
Throughout his entire career, Pistoletto has worked with the mirror and the reflection as a artistic element and a form of expression where the spectator is put right in front of the art work. With a simple, wellknown and seducing material, Pistoletto challenges us as spectators to look at ourselves and the world around us.
On September 16, 2016 Michelangelo Pistoletto finished the art work ’Eleven Less One’ with a special performance destroying the mirrors and revealing the many underlying colours. With this performance, the art work is finished and 'Eleven Less One' has found its place as a permanent installation at Kunsten.
'Eleven Less One' is a generous donation from New Carlsberg Foundation to the museum.
