The 30 recent works in this exhibition reveal a more narrative side to Kvium's work. Human beings, in all their folly, are still the focal point, targeted with a mixture of criticism and affection. Kvium has painted many of these works specially for the exhibition in Aalborg, so they will be unveiled here for the very first time.
The exhibition 'Real Monsters' presents 30 recent works by Michael Kvium (b.1955). Central to the works is the depiction of human figures. In these pictures Kvium grapples with religion, politics and everyday life. Nothing is sacred to this artist. He exposes each and every one of us with a firm hand, but with a touch of affection and a twinkle in his eye. In recent years, much more than previously, his figures have entered the realm of 'reality' such as we understand the term.
The exhibition is divided into four themes, though all based on the central theme of 'real monsters' – the monsters of reality, which are rooted inside us. The exhibition also presents the premiere of a brand new portrait film by director Peter Klitgaard.
