Omar Victor Diop spotlights landmark moments in the history of black people, masterfully staged and featuring himself as a stand-in.
The Senegalese photographer Omar Victor Diop (b. 1980) retells and interprets seminal moments in the history of black people.
His works include beautifully composed, skilfully staged portraits of significant figures in black history, in which he often ‘casts’ himself as the protagonist.
The exhibition will present 50 of Diop’s large-format photographs, in which, aesthetically and conceptually, he draws on his experience from the world of fashion and advertising.
Diop depicts the complexity of modern African society, inviting the viewer to take a critical look at the history of slavery, Western power structures, climate action and contemporary football culture.
