The surface of the picture is almost completely filled with small creepy-crawly figures that twist in and out of each other, sometimes in the form of pure picture puzzles. Asger Jorn has worked his way through the painting from one end to the other, so that each figure has grown out of or been built on top of the previous one. This spontaneous, intuitive method of working was one that Asger Jorn had learnt from Ejler Bille. It was a rejection of the academic way of thinking that a picture should be planned and carefully composed beforehand.
