Olafur Eliasson

May 4th 2013 to Aug 25th 2013

A new work in the sculpture park by Olafur Eliasson called 'Den trekantede himmel (The triangular sky) will be unveiled, as well as the audience can experience and walk on his installation piece 'Lava floor'.

Olafur Eliasson's work 'Den trekantede himmel' ('The triangular sky'), which we unveil in May, has been specially created for the Museum's unique sculpture park and has been made possible by donations from the Obel Family Foundation, the Augustinus Foundation and the New Carlsberg Foundation. To celebrate the inauguration of 'Den trekantede himmel' ('The triangular sky') the Museum will also present (for the very first time in Denmark) in its central gallery the installation piece, 'Lava floor'.

Visitors are invited to take a walk on a composition of Icelandic lava stone, which is laid out on the gallery floor. Olafur Eliasson's approach to art is very much about blending the work, the spectator and the surroundings into a total experience, with the focus on the actual experience, rather than on the completed artwork alone. Olafur Eliasson (b. 1967) has exhibited all over the world in significant museums such as MOMA in New York and the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin. He also represented Denmark at the Venice Biennale in 2003.

In addition, the movie Synopsis - Olafur Eliasson: Space is process is shown Studio Olafur Eliasson is the name of Olafur Eliasson’s designstudio in Berlin. It is one of the most creative workplaces in Europe, and the world famous pieces are created as a cooperation between researchers, engineers, architects, technicians and art historians. In this unique portrait JJ Film follows the Danish/ Icelandic artist and his projects – from the first sketches to their final destinations, where the world press is waiting with high expectations to see the talented “Dane’s” newest artistic ideas. The movie introduces many of Eliasson’s biggest projects from the beginning to the final product and it takes the viewer behind the scenes to meet the otherwise media-shy artist.
